“Por el Avance de la Ciencia Nicaragüense”
"Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity,
and is the torch which illuminates the world. Science is the highest personification
of the nation because that nation will remain the first which carries the
furthest the works of thought and intelligence."
Louis Pasteur
- (1822-1895) - Químico y Microbiólogo Francés
INTRODUCTION
The Nicaraguan Society of Science is an organization that integrates
scientists of all areas of knowledge to promote the advancement of science and
scientific education in the country. The society stimulates critical thinking
and discussions about relevant local scientific topics.
In this early stage, we propose to take the first steps towards the
structuring and establishment of the National Academy of Science in Nicaragua.
Currently, we are summoning a group of Nicaraguan scientists with distinguished
academic careers who are actively conducting research inside, as well as
outside of the country. This group will be incorporated into the organizational
phase of the society. Equally fundamental to this process is the interplay
between outstanding foreign scientists and national scientists, the former
operating as counselors for the latter. The organization will be independent
and non-profitable in nature.
We invite to the scientific community and all interested parties to
visit this website frequently in order to establish connections and become
informed about the activities of the Nicaraguan Society of Science.
OBJECTIVES
·
Promote dialogue between the national
and international scientific communities, creating synergy and
multidisciplinary groups between researchers of all scientific areas.
·
Support and advise the Nicaraguan
government and society regarding the policy-making process and executive
decisions about diverse issues of science and technology.
·
Promote the generation of knowledge,
contributing to the creation of solutions to specific problems of national
interest.
·
Foster scientific education at all
levels.
·
Acknowledge, both nationally and
internationally, the research performed by Nicaraguan scientists and encourage
international collaboration.
·
Contribute to the ongoing struggle to
create a modern, honest and just society.
ACTIVITIES
In order to fulfill our objectives, the Nicaraguan Society of Science is
continuously working in the organization of programs and concrete activities,
such as the establishment of a virtual national library containing influential
scientific articles written by national investigators or by foreign scientists
whose work focuses on issues important to Nicaragua. Furthermore, we have
proposed the development of a newsletter, which would serve as a means for
transferring information and promoting public awareness about important
scientific topics.
"Doing what
little one can to increase the general stock of knowledge is as respectable an object
of life, as one can in any likelihood pursue"
Charles Darwin – (1809-1888) - Naturalista Inglés
